KPUD chairman Mohammad Iqbal Santoso told Antara news agency that Aceng won 535,289 votes, or 55.8 percent of total votes cast.

Aceng beat out Rudi Gunawan and his running mate Oim Abdurochim, backed by the Golkar Party and the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P). Rudi took in 423,263 votes, or 44.2 percent of total votes.

A total of 985,898 votes were cast during the second round of the election, or 62.3 percent of total registered voters.

After the KPUD's announcement, actor and TV host Diki Chandra pledged to leave behind the glitz and glamour of the showbiz world, saying he would do his best to keep the promises he made while campaigning.
